Threshold is for travelers who want to feel the high Himalaya — the cold, clean air, the wind off the ice, the silence between peaks — without the demands of a full trek. A private helicopter carries you from Kathmandu straight into the Khumbu, and you stay at a single hand-built lodge for the whole journey. Three full days of gentle walks, careful acclimatization, mountain photography, and long evenings by the fire.

Many travelers choose Threshold as a prelude to the Everest Base Camp trek, acclimatizing in comfort before the long walk in. Others come for it as a post-trek recovery, resting in the mountains they have just crossed on foot.

    A private helicopter carries you from Kathmandu straight into the Khumbu, via a graded stop, with a sightseeing route over the high passes. You arrive in the afternoon and settle into the lodge over slow tea.

    First acclimatisation walk

    A gentle morning walk to let your body find the altitude, then a long, easy afternoon. Mountain light on Ama Dablam, and a fire-lit evening with your personal sherpa attendant close at hand.

    The finest of the mornings — clear air, close peaks, and time for photography if you wish it. A slow walk on the high paths above the valley, then quiet by the fire.

    A morning helicopter back to Kathmandu, the high passes below you one last time. A final dinner in the city closes the journey.

Practicalities

  • Is acclimatisation an issue?

    Sleeping altitude is 3,440 m at Namche. We arrive by helicopter via a graded stop and carry medical oxygen and a pulse oximeter throughout.

  • What if the weather grounds the helicopter?

    Khumbu weather is predictable in the dry seasons we run Threshold. If a transfer is delayed, an extra night in Kathmandu at our partner heritage hotel is included.

  • Is this suitable for older travellers?

    Yes. Threshold was built for travellers in their fifties and sixties who want Khumbu views without trekking days. We have hosted guests up to seventy-eight.

  • What travel insurance do I need?

    You will need a policy that covers travel at altitude, including helicopter evacuation. It is not included in the journey price, and we review your cover with you during planning.

  • When is the best time to travel?

    We run Threshold in the dry seasons, when Khumbu skies are clearest — October and November, and April and May. We will help you choose the window that suits you when we plan your dates.

  • How does payment work?

    There is no online checkout. Threshold is arranged by application; the payment schedule and any terms are set out in the written proposal we prepare for you.
